About Kiln Quest

Glass fish, kilned formed and flameworked, mounted on a mirrorGlass is one of the oldest art forms, with artifacts of glass art dating back to the rise
of civilization in Mesopotamia, Egypt and ancient Rome. Although the technologies
and materials continuously change, making this a very dynamic art form, the underlying tools and processes have changed very little in hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of years. Contemporary glass art, therefore, is an endless set of possibilities, combining state-of-the-art ideas and concepts with timeless traditions.

Grape ArborKiln-formed glass art uses specialized glass kilns to heat pieces of glass to the melting point, where they fuse into solid objects. Everything can be varied - the glass, the temperatures, the times, the molds and refractory materials. The results are limited only by imagination.

My professional career has always been research, and research continues to be the paradigm that shapes my work in glass. I am constantly trying and exploring new ideas and techniques for this ancient art form. As a result, my work is almost always one-of-a-kind pieces or extremely limited editions. In most cases, it would be impossible to reproduce an object exactly.

My goals in glass art are three - to pursue objects of beauty, to continuously develop and enhance my skills and perspectives, and to pay homage to the countless of generations of wonderful artists who came before me.
